We are excited to invite you to the 17^th MassTrack/ShipWeight User Group meeting to be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, in conjunction with the 85th SAWE International Conference on Mass Properties Engineering (May 18-21, 2026 in Los Angeles, California). The meeting will be of interest to active users of MassTrack and ShipWeight as well as those who are considering acquiring it.

The meeting is also an opportunity to meet other users in an informal setting for exchanging experiences and discussions on best practices. Last, but not least, it is a great opportunity to provide feedback to the developers and participate in making priorities for future development of the software

ShipWeight Release 14.10 is Now Available!

ShipWeight 14.10 is now available, bringing powerful new features to enhance your weight engineering efficiency—especially for parametric estimation.

Key Updates:

Re-Estimation & Variants Analysis – Create project variants and run re-estimations to track weight changes as input parameters evolve.
Kickstart Your Parametric Estimation – Perform auto-estimation based on initial settings, then seamlessly transfer results to the main window for further refinement.
Enhanced Parametric Method Overview – Gain a clearer view of weight group estimations with a new integrated display in the parametric estimation window.

Re-Estimation & Variants Analysis

The new “Re-Estimate” function in ShipWeight allows you to automatically update all parametric estimates whenever one or more input parameters change. Additionally, a new “Variants” window lets you create estimate variants, each with its own set of input parameters.

You can run estimations for all variants automatically using the original estimation settings and easily compare results at both the weight group and aggregated levels. Updates are clearly highlighted, making it easy to see how input parameter variations impact the results.

Kickstart Your Parametric Estimation

The “Auto Weight and CoG Estimation” window in ShipWeight enables you to define initial conditions—such as detail level, estimation method, and coefficient extraction—before running an automated weight group estimation.

Results from different initial settings can be compared side by side, and a selected result set, along with its corresponding settings, can be transferred to the main window. From there, you can further analyze and refine the estimate using the parametric estimation window.

Enhanced Parametric Method Overview

A newly integrated table in the parametric estimation window now displays the available methods for the current weight group, along with their corresponding results.

This enhancement allows for easy comparison of estimation methods, and you can conveniently select your preferred method using a radio button next to each result.

ShipWeight Patch 14.06 is Now Available

ShipWeight Patch 14.06 primarily focuses on refining and correcting minor issues found in ShipWeight 14. However, it also introduces several new features, including:

A quick and easy way to create subprojects
The ability to filter out inactive projects from the Open window
An option to display negative numbers in red font for better visibility
Two new regression line types: inverse and polynomial
A feature to view all regression lines simultaneously in the estimation graph

Here are some more details on the new features mentioned above:

Quick and easy way to create subprojects

You can now create subprojects directly from the project selection window. A new ‘Add’ button allows you to enter the subproject name. Additionally, you can quickly create multiple subprojects at once using the syntax 1-N (where N is a whole number greater than 1). This automatically generates N subprojects, sequentially numbered from 1 to N.

Ability to filter out inactive projects from the Open window

In the ‘Open Project’ window, you can now hide inactive projects by checking the ‘Hide Inactive Projects’ box. This filters out any project that does not have the ‘Active’ checkbox selected in the ‘Project Info’ window.

Display negative numbers in red font for better visibility

The Options window now includes a setting to display negative weights in red font in both the main and item windows.

Two new regression line types: inverse and polynomial

The parametric estimation window now supports inverse and polynomial regression line types.

View all regression lines simultaneously in the estimation graph

The graph menu now includes an option to display all regression lines simultaneously in the estimation window. Regression lines not selected for the regression coefficient are shown in gray.

Quality Assurance – Find Your Duplicate Items

Detecting and correcting erroneous duplicates is important for the quality of your weight data. However, these duplicates can be difficult to find and identify. As an example, they can be same items entered twice in different weight groups or it can be two identical items in same position that were supposed to be one on starboard and one on portside. They may share the same position and weight, but not the same ID or description, or it can be items that even have different weights but are in the same positions when there should be only one weight.

ShipWeight has a dedicated function to find these cases, list them for you and make it easy for you to correct them. Here is how to do it:

Open the Items window to list your items:

On the Tools menu choose Find -> Identical Items…

This will bring up Find Items window to help you find identical items:

The combination of weight group and item number must be unique in ShipWeight, so you are not allowed to enter any items with the same combination of weight group and item number. That is a way to prevent duplicate items going into the database.

However, there can be identical items entered twice in different weight groups or it can be two identical items in same position that were supposed to be one on starboard and one on portside. They may share the same position and weight, but not the same ID or description, or it can be items that even have different weights but are in the same positions when there should be only one weight.

ShipWeight’s “Find Duplicate” function can be used to detect those.

First, you check the boxes next to the Compare Field that you determine will be used to look for identical items. For example, if you want to find any items in the database that share same Description and Weight:

Next click the Query button and the window will start to search through the project:

On the right side you can see several instances with items that share the same Description and Weight:

And if you click on the first one, you will get the details of the selection in the window below:

The detail shows that weight group E3.3.1 contains two items (00214 and 00217) with the same Description and Weight.

Now, DoubleClick on any of these two lines, and ShipWeight will bring these item to you in the Item Window where you can correct them.
