The description of the sub code (in addition to the Code ID) is shown in dropdown lists in the Items window for custom codes defined as ListBox or ComboBox. The description is only shown in the dropdown list for reference purposes; it is not brought into the field when selection is done. Furthermore, the sub codes will be shown indented according to their defined hierarchy structure.
